I am not sure what I'm going to do with this. I came up with the title when I thought I wanted a place to rant. The thing about ranting is that I don't find it to be particularly productive. There's also the fact that the stuff of rants in my day to day life tends to be about the same things over and over: people who treat retailers with disdain, lack of intellectual curiosity, rudeness, bad drivers...
For instance, I don't think it would be too interesting to read about me grousing about the idiot couple at The Turnip Truck who rolled their cart through and over a pile of bags of chocolate chips that a clerk had sorted and was in the process of shelving. That same couple complained more than once that everything in the store was too expensive. You know, Mister and Missus Frugal-Loogie? Maybe if you didn't play Godzilla with the food while they were shelving it, maybe if you didn't step on the bag of chips clinging to the wheel of your cart to free it and then kick it behind you before moving on, there wouldn't be so much shrinkage and things wouldn't cost as much. Of course the people at The Turnip Truck were very nice about it. I would have probably grabbed the bag and started shoving chips into their nostrils.
"Do you think you're playing in the World Cup?" I imagine myself saying as I shove organic morsels up their snoots. "Quit! Kicking! The Merchandise! And stop whining! You know you breathe through your mouths all the time anyway!"
Scintillating reading, right?
So I have this blog with a title I like. Incidentally, it comes from one of my favorite James Thurber cartoons.
The caption reads: "She has the true Emily Dickinson spirit except that she gets fed up occasionally."
Maybe this will be the place where I put my music and TV and books and movie reviews. Actually, that does seem like a good idea. It will also be where I give away stuff from my stash. Right now I have a huge stash of music that needs to be rehomed.
It's kind of funny how I ended up with multiple copies of Alanis Morisette's first album and two or three titles from Toby Keith's catalog. I already had more music than a mature adult should own, but most of it was stored in binders, which is great except I have a bunch of Putumayo discs and since they needed to sit on a shelf because they're all in digipacks, I ended up playing Putumayo discs and nothing but for a couple of years. There's nothing wrong with Putumayo's music, but it meant that everything else was sitting unplayed, unloved, and unenjoyed. So I decided to put everything back in cases. This meant hitting yard sales and discount bins for cheap discs I could discard without feeling too bad about it.
But I actually do feel a little bad about it because I know that somewhere, someone is dying for a Janet Jaskon or Hal Ketcham CD that I cruelly snapped up for a nickel so I could store my Webb Wilder and Southern Culture on the Skids discs. Yeah, I'm elitist that way. Or something. So, I will be giving away these discs. How and when remains to be revealed. Maybe there will be a giveaway in the next post.
